My thoughts
I've taken a semester off from school to study for my MOS. Not too terribly hard as far as educational endeavors go at least for me. I am fairly sure I'll pass both Excel and Power Point fairly easily. After that it's a simple matter of learning a bit more about Access and boning up for the Expert Excel & Word tests. I have until mid-November so no big deal. Scratch school and homework and term papers off as a stressor.
Work... I love what I do. I teach computer skills to people. Anyone and everyone who walks in my door is welcome to learn whatever they want to all they have to do is ask and I'll teach. Projects for the boss... I have roughly 30 but nothing truly time critical. I have a new routine for some old tasks and now those old tasks take even less time than they did a couple weeks ago. Scratch work off the list as a stressor.
Eating habits.... these have drastically improved as well. I'm eating much better both in quantity and quality of foods. Lots of veggies and fruit with meat and grains thrown in for good measure. I live on stir fry veggies with chicken and my favorite fruit smoothies. My only issue here is liquid intake..perhaps my main issue is in dehydration... I'm going to explore that more but overall not a major stressor.
The apartment.... kitchen is overall much cleaner than it has been, my desk is almost always a disaster--stressor, the laundry is always a big pile--stressor but otherwise the house is fairly well maintained for one with 2 children and a disabled cat... ok so the cat is a stressor too.
Finances.... usually a big one for most people... not true really, I have the funds to do what I need to and am actually getting ahead. I am about to shut down some community programs as I have stabilized my life to a point that I can ditch programs that cause stress in the form of paperwork. Not a stressor... well once I close things down it won't be as the programs cause more stress than supporting myself.
Old issues-- now here is where I think my root problem is. I have unresolved issues with an ex. I think this is the place I need to now focus on and resolve things. My question is how? Counseling is one option and is my likely one but here's a kicker with that I have a distrust and dislike of counselors as a past issue... so how do I seek a counselor when I don't like counselors? My answer... talk to my doctor and call for appointments for a counselor. Why haven't I done this yet? Because I need to get past procrastination and it's just time.

8.2 Environment
I will wholeheartedly agree that it is completely addictive. When I was without it from Sept 10, 2001 to March 1, 2002 I was a disaster. I was cranky and out of touch with a number of people I had become close to or spent hours communicating with including my family in another state and my best friends from high school. I will also state for the record that it is incredibly addictive as are things like instant messaging which gave me the skill of typing quickly with only one hand as I was busy holding and breast feeding my child with the other one. I learned to use shortcut keys that way as well.
I wholeheartedly now trust my spam filters on my Gmail accounts and my Outlook accounts to save me from the headaches and hassles of SPAM. I now lecture in the mornings on the evils of SPAM and how to protect your accounts as well.
I am, well, completely, totally, unabashedly addicted to e-mail. It is one of the best tools I have to "get 'er done"!
8.1 National Identity
I fear the national ID card and RFID and ID chips implanted in the body because it is another way our civil liberties can be reduced and minimized. It is how we can be controlled especially financially and how we can be tracked globally with GPS systems. I object to it because I am in a national database that I can not control the security of the computer system. All it takes is one unethical hacking employee to start changing information in the database under someone else's user ID or to plainly back door exploit and hack the system in the first place, to really mess things up for someone.
I half way favor it because it can track dangerous things such as guns. I do feel that if you need a license to drive a car you should have to register your gun so that police and FBI investigators can track it easier to find killers or to find out if it was stolen and help locate it for the owner. I favor a national ID card for all immigrants as it will tell employers who is eligible to work in the country and who is not and help reduce the illegal status of our immigrants (which by the way is another tangent and rant for another day as I do not believe in using the term "Illegal" to refer to an immigrant after all we are all immigrants with the exception of the Native Americans).
I do not favor the ID Card because it takes away our anonymity and a right to privacy. Anyone who swipes your card can find out everything from your credit report to how many traffic tickets you have to if you're possibly cheating on your spouse... well maybe not that but if you have other things in your background that no one else really needs to know.
I can see it for a passport or for government buildings, but for the general public I like sticking with my simple, everyday State Driver's License... well mine is still a learner's permit but I won't go there.

7.2 Relationships
For myself I vowed to stay home only until kindergarten for my youngest which almost worked, however I had a bad relationship and chose to get out of it and bring my kids to the city so that I could have more opportunity to advance career wise.
I also chose to go back to school and seek a full bachelors degree in hopes that the classes and skills I would learn would help validate my knowledge to employers. I also chose community volunteerism as a spring board back into society as a working individual. This has worked incredibly well as I have discovered a wealth of skills and knowledge along with a new confidence in myself.
This new confidence has inspired my children to do the best they can and frequently they join me during some of my activities. My daughter was on the front page of the newspaper right after Martin Luther King day this year. They were on the news as well helping with setup and clean up of the even at the Fairview Recreation Center. We also participated in Kids Day in April and the children had a blast. I took them with me when we volunteered on the 4th of July in Mountain View.
They are being taught that working can be combined with having children. I feel incredibly guilty leaving them some days at the daycare but I know that I am working towards self sufficiency and that they know my goal is to have a home where they can have their own rooms and a place to play that is their own.
These values of giving to the community in addition to seeing their mother balance and juggle working, raising them and school all at once shows that I am seeing to their welfare. Over the course of the last 18 or so months I've been repeatedly called a "Super Mom" and variations on a theme. I don't feel this is a good assessment as there are a great deal of things I am missing out on while away from them. First teeth being lost, scraped knees, butterflies caught, art projects, award ceremonies and various school activities which all sadden me but I know that as long as I spend time with them when ever possible their childhood will still be a good one.
I would have loved to be like my mother always home and there to help me with homework, art projects and to play with me but I know that I will still be involved with homework, art and I play with the kids no matter what. I may not get to play very often but when I do they remember it.
I am no "Super Mom" I am "good enough".
7.1 Feedback on 6.2
If you want to be technical (no pun intended here) I have a job currently as a technical writer. Daily for over a year I wrote resumes, cover letters and currently write tutorials on various subjects for computer instruction. Most if not all of my work is very effective at what it was intended to get across to it's intended audience.
I previously, before that wrote 2 books on pattern making and nearly 100 patterns for sewing doll costumes. Within each of those was hours of research and testing in addition to a healthy of creativity.
I think I had a problem with "tooting my own horn" previously. I am not positive that is a problem for me anymore as I have an increased ability to praise my own and other's work to an almost excessive level. If I've learned anything with this class it's that I can write, write well and do it in a reasonable amount of time following guidelines and that I enjoy it immensely.

Free Write--Boredom
Aimlessly wandering the Net is not really an option as I don't generally wander aimlessly. I usually have some subject in mind. Tonight is different. I don't want to go shopping online, I don't want to read about business stuff or even dolls or raising kids and my usual forums and mailing lists are quiet with no fun threads to post to.
My eldest daughter is sick but thankfully asleep. My son is already in bed, early for a change and my sweetie decided to take a nap but is likely to get up when I decide to head to bed or go watch some movie or TV series on DVD.
I could work on a graphical project. One I can't work on at work because of a serious lack of graphic arts programs and no admin access to the computer I'd want to use to do the project but I want to do that possibly tomorrow while I'm stuck home with a sick child.
I could do laundry, theres a big pile to fold but that is boring when I'm not watching TV or movie of some sort and the TV is in with the sick child or sleeping sweetie.
I could go cook something or clean the kitchen but I don't have an interest right now in cleaning the kitchen so I can cook... too much work for this time of day.
I wish I could sew but the sewing stuff is still in totes I haven't had time to open in over a year. I could design for the doll that is staring at me from my desk but I don't know what I'd want to put on her.
I could do some website work but I think that would take too much brain power as I want to re-do the entire site lock, stock & barrel. Just the planning phase of that is a ton of work.
I'm just a barrel of laughs right now. I'm bored. Perhaps I'll open a random drawing program and play maybe that will help.

Free Write-- Good or Bad?
Why would I bother with a blog specifically for the kids? Well, my best friend from high school called this morning and during our chat I realized that the one area of my life that should have a blog or at least something I can update easily should be my family. I've concentrated on my business, work and school extensively and this semester, being only half time has left me with some time to breathe, think and catch up on various tasks I should have had done by now. It's also allowed me to realize that I haven't spent as much time with the kids as I should. My goal now for the rest of the summer is to spend time capturing my children saying or doing something... good or bad it'll all end up on Kidisms.

6.3 Body Image- Preventing Childhood Obesity
I must be among the very lucky parents who has children who want to go outside to play or who will do 50 laps running around the car when we get home at night. Yes, my children did this the other day and it continues to be a favorite pastime for them too whenever they get the chance amusingly enough.
However, sadly enough there are too many children who prefer to sit in front of an electronic babysitter aka a computer, video game system or TV and munch junk food. I am concerned that there is an increasingly larger portion of the youthful population that is doing this and it is contributing to the various health problems that we have today, in our society.
We, as parents should be watching our children and what they eat, what they do and for how long but instead parents are working longer hours to make ends meet thus ignoring the next generation. I am guilty of this as much as the next parent but when I am around I try to go out and actively play with the kids. We hike or take walks and now that I'm thinking about it I think I'll find a nice badminton set or volleyball set to put outside to play with too as I need to be more physically active and spend less time on a computer.
I think that if children and adults alike spend more time outside "playing" we as a society would have fewer health problems.
6.1B More Research
Recap:
Last week I was asked to put together my "dream job description" and do the accompanying cover letter and resume to go with it. I was surfing around on AKCIS and About.com and thinking about what all my "dream jobs" would have in common and started discussing it with George, my sweetie, as I was describing what I'd love to do it came to him: "look up Technical Writing" was his suggestion. I had never really thought about technical writing as I didn't think I was technical enough. To me Technical Writing is writing manuals on how to do things and other instructional materials. Well, yes, that is exactly what it is and in reading about it more I realized that my writing doll pattern instructions, my Crash Course and my Pattern Making for Dolls and Pattern Drafting for Miniatures books along with my other blogs (see list on the side bar) and my huge website and a myriad of other items I've done in the last few years.
So I read more and search around more and stumble on Guru.com which is where people look for freelance consultants for various industries including a specific category for technical writing. I'm now getting postings from companies looking for consultants for various things from RFP's (request for proposals) to business plans to other writing assignments.
Between all those things plus Career Builder and Monster.com I was able to cobble together my own job description and from there it didn't take very long to get the cover letter and resume done since it is what I do for a living at least part of the time now a days.
Overall, I am extremely happy with what I have now thanks to my co-worker, classmate and instructor.

Add on to 6.1A and the whole Portfolio Project
I was doing some of the research and reading about various things for a couple hours after work doing a little "fun" reading working towards the project. I walk in to the bedroom where my sweetie was taking a nap and start jabbering about what I had been reading. He's only half awake but stops me for a sec and pops off with "What about Technical Writing? You do that all the time when you do tutorials and stuff" I run off and go looks stuff up and sure enough, I've been a writer in one form or another most of my life and for about 15 or so years I've been a technical writer.
Now, I want to do consulting work but I think I have a focus for a consulting type business finally.... Technical Writing which encompasses resumes, cover letters, tutorials, blogs, web site content, grants and many many other things I love to write about.
My list of resources is now huge including resources for learning some specific tech writing stuff so I guess I'll have to compile my list of resources as part of the project now too..... will a print out of my favorites list and Google Notebooks do? ;-)

6.1A Identify Online Resources
I have numerous articles I've read and gathered information about including several blogs. Beyond that I have just received a couple books I'm now reading on one high interest area that I feel might end up one of my main focuses of the paper. The books are "Consulting for Dummies" and "The Consultant's Manual" both of which seem to be helping guide me to a future in consulting based on the skills and community contacts I already have.

Imagine Your Trasition
I am not currently in any stage of transition as I am roughly 9 months away from dealing with transition which is why I am looking at all viable options early so that I can transition smoothly and have as little family upset as possible.
Supports. What supports do you have for the transition? You can expect the upcoming transition to affect several different areas of your current life-- your roles, relationships, routines and assumptions. How much support do your family, co-workers, friends and community give you? Will your transition from Americorps disrupt any of that support?What do you thing your own support options are? Can you think of ways to increase these options? Take some time to think about the level of support you have, and then write your thoughts out.
I have a number of my friends in the Mat-Su Valley where I want to move back to as soon as college is completed in December next year. Once I am done with Americorps there is also the chance that I might stay with Nine Star as staff or simply work on campus for a while until I am done with school. I have the ability to get just about any job I want due to working in Career Development and I have the confidence in my skills both old and new that I can apply them wherever I decide to work. In addition I have a number of community resources that will assist my kids & I in this transition.
"Free Downloads Play Sweet Music" 5.2
When I was a teen I was into New Kids on The Block. I had several of their tapes but there were several songs on each one that I didn't care for. I re-recorded ones I liked with a plain old tape recorder and had my favorites on one tape and the originals sat in a dark corner under my bed. The other thing about those tapes is that I had traded or borrowed from friends to get the tracks I like. This same thing happened later on with CD's and burning technology. I have many CD's from friends that I burned a track or two I really liked rather than go out and buy a whole CD that had parts I wouldn't listen to.
Downloadable music is not hurting the industry as the listeners are being given more choices and spending hard earned and saved money on things they really need or want instead of dropping a lump on a CD they may not totally need at the time. This can only help the economy as a whole and is a minor spit in the bucket of revenue for the music industry.
If the music industry was smart they would release music digitally first and then allow users to create their own CD's in the store if they are so worried about large chain store sales. Those who do not want or have the technology to build their own CD's or even collection of Mp3's for a portable device can go into a store, pick the music they want at a per track price and build a custom CD or play list for the store clerks to compile. Hey, even I might go for that kind of service!

Life After Americorps- Imagining Your Transition
Wednesday, July 11, 2007
4.4 Continued & Revised
Current sections consist of:
- General Ed Term Papers
- Business Major Term Papers
- Resumes -- archived from my teen years along with possibly some client resumes with names changed and my Kris Kringle fun resume and the CV's I've done for clients also with names changed of course.
- Awards --believe it or not this section is about 1/4" thick and it's only the last year and a half worth of awards!
- Business-- Mine, archives of business plans, marketing plans etc, list of patterns that are completed
- Web Site --archives of my home page printed out to show how my web skills have changed over the years. In addition current printouts of pages that are online now
- Books-- Complete current print outs of my 2 self published books and their copyrights
- Other Work-- other things I've done for work or just fun stuff including a list of links and other items
- Career Development-- research on occupations and occupational fields that I am interested in
Yes, there are additions and revisions to this:
I am going to work through the Next Steps: Life After Americorps book that my company provides. Americorps for anyone who doesn't know, is equal to the Peace Corps only domestic. Meaning it is community service work or volunteer work but Americorps Members are provided a living stipend so it is not pure volunteer work but it is definitely a labor of love. A love of helping people in a community.

MLA Paper 4.4
My main concerns with this post:
- Am I defining my semester long goal?
- Am I choosing to create a term paper on a specific topic?
- Was this item even supposed to be blogged?
Argument Construction 4.3
First and foremost what is your topic? Who is your target audience? What do you want them to get out of your writing?
On the first idea-- define your topic.
- Do you know what the specific topic is? A general topic is a good start but within a general topic are a large list of specific topics. Define what specific idea you are writing about.
- Is the topic suitable for the assignment you are faced with? If your topic is broad you need to pick specific points to hit on and then support your ideas with facts. It should match with who ever gave you the writing assignment. If you're not sure then check back with the person who gave you the topic to write on for additional guidelines.
- What is my opinion on the topic? Do I even have an opinion? If you don't then start reading about the topic and form an opinion so that you can intelligently write on it.
- How might others disagree with my opinion? Discuss or read about other points of view on the topic.
- Can I change their opinion to match mine? This is possible if you're passionate about the topic and know your facts.
- Can I support my opinion with evidence? Always keep a list of sources of information even informal conversations with co-workers and friends. Everyone has an opinion of some form and it may or may not agree with your own. Be open to listening to what others have to say, your opinion might change.
Is your audience a broad one. For this writing assignment it is for the professor but also there is a good chance that others will read it so it is also for classmates. Since it's a blog online then it's also for the search engines and those who might read it through searches for keywords. I would not normally format my own notes like this but my audience is a large one and thus my notes on this chapter are different based on the audience.
Structure the Argument
Begin by thinking about the main idea of the argument or topic. What is the purpose of your writing about the topic? If it's just for an instructor and just an assignment see if you can find another topic that you have an interest in. The more you are interested in learning about your topic the more fun it can be to write about your topic.
An outline is an incredibly useful tool in figuring out how to write a paper or essay. Currently I have an essay in Alaska History to do. My outline for the essay might be as follows:
| 1. Major Idea-- Russians in | ||||||||||
| | a. | Supporting Idea— | ||||||||
| | i. | Supporting Detail | ||||||||
| | 1. | Minor Idea | ||||||||
| | | a. | Supporting Detail | |||||||
| | 2. | Minor Idea | ||||||||
| | | b. | Supporting Detail | |||||||
| 2. Major Idea-- Spanish in | ||||||||||
| | a. | Supporting Idea— | ||||||||
| | i. | Supporting Detail | ||||||||
| | 1. | Minor Idea | ||||||||
| | | a. | Supporting Detail | |||||||
| | 2. | Minor Idea | ||||||||
| | | b. | Supporting Detail | |||||||
| 3. Conclusion | ||||||||||
Now while this paper is still in it's early phases I have a general idea in mind for it especially since it's a logical paper and a comparison opinion type paper digging for the main idea of the articles used for sources.
Once I have thoroughly read the articles once more and know my material well I'll fill in the outline more and write the essay more efficiently. Now I do not use the outline method as shown above other than as a mental thing in the imagination. I can visualize this outline and generally fill in the blanks as I am writing. Others I know must have an outline to work from in order to write. It's all personal preference.
Picking your types of argument is based on the assignment for the piece your are writing. There are 3 main ways to structure the argument. These are:
- Classical
- Introduction, statement of background, proposition, proof, refutation and conclusion
- Rogerian
- Introduction, summary of opposing views, statement of understanding, statement of your position, statement of contexts, statement of benefits
- Logical
- Inductive Reasoning
- experiences, anecdotes, statistics and quotations
- Deductive reasoning
- identify conclusion, examine reasons carefully, formulate premise
Reflection on Study Aids 4.1
So while I don't like it, others find it incredibly helpful which is fine with me. I like to try to teach as many ways of doing something as possible because as an instructor I know that everyone learns differently.
My personal process includes sticky notes and not marking a book during a lecture, then writing/typing out notes based on quick jots from the sticky notes. If I know a professor offers open book and open note tests I use the glossary and index extensively during the test. This type of process works incredibly well for me. It may not work for others. It may not work for all classes and as the need arises I modify th method to the needs I have to cover the information being provided.
I adapt and love it.
Goals for the Near Future 4.2
| 1. grades, MOS, Dean's List | review goals |
| 2. pay off loans | set schedule |
| 3. bus analyst consultant | *action plan |
| 4. STC | *action plan revision |
| 5. Kids | review steps, research methods, practice |
| 6.portfolio | *schedule |
| 7. Degrees | in progress |
| 8. moving | *plans |
Updates:
#1 and #7 are again tied together and there is very incredibly slow progress on these other than the classes I am currently taking. I need to set a schedule of time for MOS studies and then stick to it. This is an incredibly difficult goal as there are a number of things pulling at my attention but I will make the time to get the MOS as that is my main priority so that I may continue taking classes in the coming semesters and finish on time.
#4 and #6 are now tied together as my business being my “playground” for learning is part of my portfolio. I am in the process of finding all my books and pattern files along with all my term papers and essays. In addition, I am working on finding all my awards for Dean’s List and my certifications in various things. I will place copies of most things in the portfolio and carefully file the originals.
#8 is currently on hold until I can contact the people I need to contact which will hopefully be Monday and I should have an update on that shortly. As for the house portion of this project, I will be tackling that closer to graduation as moving back to the Valley depends on graduation/finish time.
#3 I am waiting for book that I ordered for item #3 Business Analyst/Consultant so that I may do research on the field more thoroughly.
#2 is a future goal that I should be able to set next summer when I know what my chosen “real job” will be and what my possible income might be. I have a transition to make next spring before I can seriously consider moving forward with this goal.
#5 Kids is a daily ongoing thing I am constantly working with teaching lessons and communicating with the kids on various issues including lying and chores.

Practice Pursuasion 3.8
Some of my arguments might be:
- We are the top performing team in the company (backed up with statistics of jobs and satisfied clients which is one of my job duties)
- We always test everything for the Work Services Team as far as work search goes
- Every time we've tested something it always improves thanks to the dynamic team that is here
- You know our team is the best or we wouldn't be on the 5th Ave team nor would Nine Star Education & Employment be The Leading Entity for helping people "Get a job, Keep a job and Advance on the job!"
I chose to use a real situation and all of the above statements are true.
Interesting add on to this:
I showed my supervisor & boss this post and it got adopted into some team meeting information. I get the feeling that it might also get adopted into a team Mission or Vision Statement somehow as that is what we seem to be discussing recently.
Second example:
Tuesday I was meeting with my boss and we got into a discussion over marketing and market share for Microsoft. His argument was that MS has 90% of the market because it's so user friendly. However I knew from my reading various articles that was not true and that Linux and Mac were eating away at that percentage steadily. To convince him I Googled all 3 companies and found out that the market shares are a lot different than what both of us thought. I still won the debate.
Third Example: Same meeting. That the website needs to be updated and optimized more efficently. I do not maintain my business website because I'm busy working and doing school work plus raising kids and the many other tasks I have. I pulled up Google again and did a basic search for our discussion looking for Nine Star once more but not finding it and then proved the point by pulling up main keywords for my own site and showing that through optimization two years later my website still comes up #4 for some of it's main keywords. To effectively spread the word about the program we are building and developing we need to update the website and market the program to get the client base we need. Result: I won
Using logic (logos) works best with my boss but also showing that I argue from ethics and honesty (ethos) is incredibly important in the Human Services Industry I serve.

Just Because.... 3.9
Last nights and week 1's assignment for goal setting is now below.
| review goals |
| 2. pay off loans | set schedule |
| 3. bus analyst consultant | *action plan |
| 4. STC | *action plan revision |
| 5. Kids | review steps, research methods, practice |
| 6.portfolio | *schedule |
| 7. Degrees | in progress |
| 8. moving | *plans |
find articles to read & add to Interesting Tid Bits blog
buy consulting for dummies
pull term papers off HD and on to flash
focus study time on MOS for Excel
review/refine plan from project mgmt for STC
additional plans for consultant
additional plans for house
The one thing I have heard and agree with:
"Find the busiest person in the building, ask them to do something and it will get done" I am one of those busy people and I get things done!
*Update--Consulting for Dummies is coming but the challenge will be to find/make the time to read it between text books and my current reading list.. I'll figure something out.
*Update 2-- Portfolio is on my flash drive now but I think I may have to put it on one of my other memory cards as with all the writing pieces I have, I filled up my flash drive! My other option might be to put the Word & Excel items on Google Docs & Spreadsheets but there have been issues with the formatting. So I might experiment with that. One more option which is less flexible is burn things to CD-RW but the problem with that is I can't burn changes on other computers. Another option is to transfer the whole portfolio to my laptop and work on it there. In fact I like that one best as I have a nice external drive I can use on other computers too. I'll figure something out.
Well you were a witness just then to my on the fly brainstorming session. Portfolio will go both on another memory card and my external drive.
Off to put it all into action. I love writing like this. I can capture thoughts.
Update #3 I have just realized something for my own career development: I am not a good Help Desk Tech Support person. I am good at teaching people software with both of us looking at the same screen at the same time but over the phone tech support is not a good career choice for me.
Note to self: Cross off all help desk or tech support type positions off my possible career path jobs list.

SQ4R Thoughts 2.4 & 2.5
This does not mean I have not used SQ4R in my studies. When I first learned to write and study for tests I used this as a great way to organize notes. Over time I refined what I do. I ditched question and just survey & write as I go in an outline type format. Most of the time I don't hand write anything if I can help it I am busy typing up whatever notes I might need. I type because my handwriting is poor and I can type as fast as my brain can think up the words. I might not necessarily spell things right but I get most of my main ideas down on screen quickly.
An example of my process:
Alaska History:
- Roots
- countries interested in finding Alaska
- Explorers
- expeditions
- the fur trade
- notes on Russia
- the fight between Spain, Russia, England and France and who gave up
- important dates
- important people
- important places
- important trade items
- important ship names
Those items come from surveying the chapter and reading quickly. Since I am not currently actively reading while posting this those are only subjects of interest to me. I already have good notes on the details of those items along with maps to show me visually where things might have been.
I am a list maker by nature, thus this method works well for me.

Free Write... Misc 2.3
First, work. I was working in Career Development doing resumes and helping others get jobs. I am burned out. I don't like resumes, am tired of cover letters, sick of thank you notes to employers and totally tired of whiny, ungrateful clients who demand your full attention even if you are currently working with someone else. On top of that a "team" that has backstabbing and back biting and sniping at each other. Hence, I got out of the CDC (no, not the center for disease control the Career Development Center). I used to enjoy helping people get jobs. Nope, not anymore. Now I'm enjoying seeing total newbies to computers learn the very beginner basics. The hard part with that is not doing things for them but sitting back and letting them practice. Things as simple as mouse skills are difficult.
I can barely remember when the mouse was a challenge for me. I think sometimes I was born with a computer in front of me but I know it's not true... I was 6 almost 7 when we got the TI-99 4A which had math programs and reading programs. My parents went to the store for milk and came home with the TI. I thought it was the best thing and my grades steadily improved through the fun programs. By the time I was 8 I was programming the thing in BASIC. I love computers. I guess that is why I now teach basic computers full time.
Back to frustrations. Communication is the cornerstone or should be to any relationship from acquaintance to serious romantic interests. This week has been a lesson in communication. Normally George (my sweetie), and I communicate perfectly well. This week.... not true. We needed to do some maintenance to the car and figuring we needed supplies for said maintenance I proposed a Wal-Mart trip. I needed to get to the bank and we ended up at Fred Meyer (grocery, etc. retailer for west coast) since my bank is also in the store. I made a leap of logic when requested to pick up food items that we'd be eating as we went across town to WM and also figured that the non-food items which are generally less expensive at WM would be bought there. Nope, George had other ideas. We'd go home, eat and go back out.
We got home, ate and then he played a game and some videos of wolverines and wolves and bears fighting and then we headed to the car. Just as everyone gets in the car he remembers that he possibly has what he needs for the car maintenance in the trunk, gets out to check and lo and behold there the stuff is... he just hadn't used it recently. He proceeds to do the maintenance getting all oily and having to go back inside to clean up. At this point it's getting late and I'm not about to start dragging kids out and I have this post to make along with homework to read. You see, my intention was to do the banking, get to WM and then get homework done. We totally did not communicate what we wanted to accomplish tonight.
We sat and talked about the miscommunication, realized it and he's making chocolate, chocolate, chocolate sourdough brownies from scratch which was what he wanted to do tonight. I'm happy.. I guess as I get brownies.
Kid frustrations.... my eldest child has been on a lying jag recently and is finally starting to snap out of it but now her younger brother has picked up the problem. Just parenting woes there as they will both outgrow the phase but it's still frustrating.
Last frustration, I promise, was getting home today to find my school books I'd ordered sitting on my porch. One is a wonderful copy of a much needed book for Alaska History and the other is the assigned reading for this class. Unfortunately for me the company that was supposed to send my book for this class gave me a nice book on Radiographic Imaging. Now if I were a medical student I would probably gladly sit and thumb through it but I happen to be a Business Management major and thus have to spend the shipping money to send it back and get the (hopefully) correct book. How long that will take, I'm unsure but hopefully only another week and not more.
Enough frustrations for now. I'll be adding to my other blogs as well in the next couple days as I have updated only 5 of the 7 I currently have in the last week. When I start writing I really get rolling.

Introduction and Random Ramblings 2.2
Currently I am in career development. Well let me back up a moment, I am an Americorps member who works in the Career Development Lab along with teaching computer skills to low income individuals who are looking to move up in the world. I also help various felons and ex-offenders improve their work skills and re-enter society.
I generally love what I do on a day to day basis. I help people write resumes, cover letters and research companies and careers. A year ago I would not have known who to contact to get someone a job on the Slope. Hey, a year ago I didn't really know what was on the Slope or that there were really jobs up there.
I am a helper by nature and I will help anyone do just about anything or figure out how to do it and teach them how to do something. Pick a subject... if I don't know I start researching and will get back to you on how to do it.
I am also a prolific writer when I choose to be. I haven't touched any of my other blogs in over a year but I will likely renew my interest this summer in those as well as starting an Alaskan Blog.
The Alaskan blog will likely be about various places in Alaska that will relate to my Alaska History class. This will make my children delighted as my youngest, Justice adores anything with the shape of the state of Alaska on it and wants copies of all the maps I'll be using for class. I encourage his interest by buying him globes and puzzles with maps on them.
Justice's other interest is in Australia. The reason for this is my sweetie, George's step-brother Justice is currently is in Melbourne seeking a Masters Degree in Urban Planning or something along those lines.
I think I'll end this random line of thought for now and move on to other things.
